I have been a Co-Angler for about 6 years now…the biggest Do I can give you is…Try to do something different from the guy in the front…example…if they are throwing a Texas rigged worm, try throwing a shakey head…try, if you can to use a different color…in my club tournament in January we were fishing a small lake near home…the guy in the front was fishing a watermelon seed finese worm on a shakey head…I used a Marti Gra color on a shakey hear (The only difference in color was that mine had purple, gold, and black flake, but still was the watermelon color) I ended up having a limit before him…but he beat me by a few ounces because he started skipping docks with a jig and caught a few largemouths…I had a limit of Spots…I say never carry over five rods and the one I have problem with is cutting down on my tackle bag…it weighs about 50lbs, but it is not that big…but like I told my wife, never know what I may need, and it is best to have it than not…make sure you can smoke in their boat if you smoke…don’t open their live well, unless they ask you to…treat their boat like you would your own…ask them to tell you how many casts before you move spots, so you can be ready and they do not have to wait on you…learn to be a good net man…learn to back a trailor so you can speed getting in and out of the water…have your own life jacket…if you are like me, I talk a lot…I always tell my boater if I talk to much tell me…my club is fairly large…we usually have about 30 or more guys fishing, but there are only about 8 non-boaters…when all else fails, drag a carolina rig out the back of the boat…I alway keep mental notes of where we are, what the condititons are, and what we are using…I always ask them what their plan is before the tournament so I know what to have rigged up on my rods…no need to have a DD22 if they plan on fishing shallow…I hope this helps…I have become a pretty good Co-angler over the years…

yes, i have been researching the same and found a series of “CO-ANGLER ETIQUETTE” articles. there’s more involved in becoming a co-angler than i ever dreamed. a couple of things it talks about is how much to pay for gas and what tackle to take and how to organize it. this way you don’t have to lug along a huge tackle box. it is very informative.
